The German Breast Group as Clinical Research Group
The German Breast Group is an academic-collaborative study group.
An official membership is not demanded by us, but any physician who takes part in our trials automatically joins the study group. Around 500 clinical institutions and 700 investigators are in the meantime working on facilitating their patient´s entry into the right one of our trials. In the year 2007 more than 3750 new participants were admitted into our trials.
Traditionally, most of our investigators work in gynaecological institutions such as university clinics, general hospitals, specialist practices and general practices. For several years an increasing number of gynecologic oncologists, have been taking part in our trials, thus enriching the trial concept with their knowledge.
Many investigators also take part in trials by other study groups, just as the members of the Subboards subboards are active in the leadership of other study groups. This networking is reflected in the numerous study cooperations, is beneficial to intercommunication and assures each individual a high degree of scientific mobility.
The study group was originally founded in 1979 by Professors Jonat, Kaufmann, Kubli and Maass as the German Adjuvant Breast Cancer Study Group (GABG), which only conducted trials on adjuvant therapy. In the year 2003, due to the expansion of the area of operation into prevention and metastatic stages of breast cancer, the name was changed to German Breast Group.
